Impactor 2000 Compaction Performance
Clay Liner Construction
RCRA Equivalent Hazardous Waste Cell
Koppers Company Inc. Superfund Site

Dear Mr. Roth:
The Impactor 2000 proved its effectiveness in our project. We had good results achieving the compaction window specified to meet shear strength and permeability requirements associated with clay liner construction for a RCRA Equivalent hazardous waste cell.

Initially we experienced difficulties achieving the specified compaction window using conventional sheepsfoot compactors. After several test pads, and intensive testing Baldwin Contracting, Co. decided to use the Impactor 2000.

Once we became familiar with this piece of equipment compaction operations resumed effectively, yielding excellent production rates and good field test results. Measured Permeability values of the clay liner were less than 1.0 centimeters per second as specified. Compaction results are shown in Figure 1*. Clay properties are included in Figure 2*, Figure 3*, and Figure 4*.

Thank you for providing an excellent piece of equipment of great value to the construction industry.

Sincerely,

Julio Badel
Sr. Project Engineer/Geotechnical
